What are the 5Rhythms?
5Rhythms™ is a moving meditation which invites us out of our heads and into our bodies. Through its practice we can deepen our awareness and transform our lives. The rhythms are a powerful and deceptively simple way to move into the fullest embodiment and manifestation of our essential selves as well as being a fun and full way to celebrate being alive.
In a class or workshop you are supported through music and facilitator guidance to follow your personal journey through a 5Rhythms 'Wave'. There are no steps to learn and plenty of space is given for individual movement and exploration. Connection with others and the support of the community are also vital components of the dance.
Dancing the 5Rhythms can be liberating, informative and trans-formative. It is a practice in alignment with these times as it is both awakening and supportive to self and community.
“Energy moves in waves. Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms.
A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance.”
It all begins with Flowing. That which moves, animated by the breath of life, is felt deep within. As the feminine of the 5Rhythms, this energy is born into movement and follows the cycles, circles and spirals of life itself. Spirit begins to flow from the formless interior realm, moving and manifesting into the earth of the body, becoming physical, felt and functioning. Our task is to follow and welcome the embodiment of our being, the presence of our body awakened in life.
The 3rd Rhythm is Chaos, it invites transformation and change. Here at the heart of the journey the invitation is to let go. Whatever ideas, concepts and beliefs we may have are merely a construction of mind. If we are ever going to discover the truth of who we are then we have to dissolve our images and discover the pure energy of being that moves through us.
Chaos requires surrender, its gift is that it sets us free...
Stillness is the Rhythm of healing, it offers us sacred refuge, it shows us the way home. Knowing that all things complete, that night follows day, that winter is the out-breath of the year, that death is part of the cycle of life, these things can be of great relief. As we move with the emptiness, as we embody the ripples of the dance as they decay, we discover the sacredness of unity, of Oneness. In the stillness between the exhale and the inhale - I AM.
Staccato leads us to the beat and to the heart. Here we tap into the power and presence of the body and harness the energy that moves towards expression and definition. Edges, angles and shapes manifest as a more fiery external 'masculine' articulation of the inner feelings. Tuning into the territory of the heart invites us to be clear and aware of how we relate to others and how we shape our connection to life.
Liberation, space, expansive freedom of expression. Lyrical gives us wind beneath our wings and allows us to celebrate who we truly are. No longer needing to try or prove ourselves, Lyrical is the letting go of letting go, the lightening up of our hearts & minds to discover de-light in the simple satisfaction of having life move us. Effortless acceptance and soulful gratitude for our lives & all of creation are the gifts that Lyrical showers upon us.
SHADOWS, Dark & light
The journey through the 5Rhythms can be a journey through our own life history. As we explore the Rhythms and the understanding of their gifts, they also begin to reveal to us some of the shadows of our own patterns and behavior. Showing us when we are not in alignment we may discover resistance, tension, confusion, spaced-out and numbness. Each of these revelations leads us towards understanding, acceptance and growth as we follow the dancing path. It's part of the great unfolding. As Gabrielle said, "Move the body and the psyche will heal itself."
In Heartbeat we explore our emotions as energy, as power, as part of being human. Old feelings that have been locked in our limbs or caged in our chest begin to shake loose. We become more comfortable with feelings, neither hanging onto them nor pushing them away. - FEAR, ANGER, SADNESS, JOY, COMPASSION -
Our intention is to create a spontaneous heart so that we can feel when our hearts are open and when they are closed; when we are shut down and when we are truly open to all life has to offer. We learn about love and how badly everybody needs and wants it.
